DO YOU KNOW?
Question: What percentage of children diagnosed with cancer in Arkansas are treated at Arkansas Children's Hospital?
- A. 72%
- B. 83%
- C. 90%
- D. None of the above
At least 90% of children diagnosed with cancer in Arkansas are treated right here at Arkansas Children's Hospital. With the opening of our new South Wing this summer, which includes the new Circle of Friends Hematology-Oncology clinic and a new inpatient unit, we will be able to meet the needs of our cancer patients better than ever before.
Your gifts have helped incorporate many of the latest innovations in pediatric health care into our new space. One of the most special features of the new clinic is the Alton L. Miles Healing Garden, an outdoor healing garden accessible only to Hematology-Oncology patients.
Our Hem-Onc kids have weakened immune systems, so they often can't visit the hospital playrooms and other common areas. The healing garden will provide these patients with a haven of their own, where they can visit with each other, soak up the sunshine and enjoy a little touch of nature.
Research shows that providing access to nature and natural light through indoor and outdoor gardens can be a wonderful way to enhance a patient's experience and improve the overall well-being of a child while he or she is hospitalized. This healing garden provides both.
Your generosity has allowed Arkansas Children's Hospital to grow to meet the ever-expanding health care needs of children in Arkansas and beyond. Your support helps provide better space than ever to offer care, love and hope to the children we serve.
