The importance of family and home can't be underestimated, especially to a sick child. The team who designed our new South Wing expansion put a lot of thought into planning spaces that will make a family feel more at home while staying at ACH.
These four "family houses" will feature a comfortable lounge area with couches, recliners and televisions. They will also feature a kitchen and dining space and an area where families can use computers and access the Internet. Lockers, laundry facilities and showers offer some of home's conveniences within steps of their child's bedside. These spaces will give families a place to relax and take care of a few of life's necessities, while remaining close to their child.
Home-like touches are included in the design to make the space warm and inviting. Carpeting, pendant lamps and honey-colored kitchen cabinets, such as you might have in your own home, round out the interior. Cottage-inspired facades, painted in fun colors like yellow and lavender with green trim, include windows, eaves and shingles.
If you or someone you love ever has to visit Arkansas Children's Hospital, we hope our new "family houses" will be havens for you and your family.
Another way to make patients feel at home is by sending an eCard. If you know someone who's in the hospital right now, you can send an eCard through the hospital website.
